The V100 is an entry-level Analogue Telephone Adaptor designed to connect to your broadband modem router. By plugging in a normal analogue telephone you can convert this into a VoIP-enabled phone. You can use any type of analogue telephone including a desktop phone, analogue cordless or DECT phone. The V100 is a device that turns your voice into “IP packets”. These packets are the basic language that the Internet uses to transmit information from one point to another. With the V100 you can call other VoIP phones (usually on the same service as you) and you can also call regular landline phones on the Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) as well as mobiles and international phone numbers.

The V100 allows you to choose your own VSP and program their settings into the device and is usually recommended for users with a small amount of technical knowledge.

1. When you speak, your voice is translated into IP packets and transmitted over the Internet to your VSP’s PSTN Gateway. This will reconvert your voice to analogue sounds, and transmit it to the phone exchange nearest the person you are talking to and finally to the destination phone.

2. When the other person talks, the process is reversed and when the IP packets arrive back at your V100 they are converted back into voice sounds which you hear through the phone.
