<<< More about it, this necklace is made of cultured freshwater pearl. Freshwater pearls are a kind of pearls cultured by freshwater mussels. Cultured or cultivated pearls are created by inserting a core or nucleus, a polished bead made from the mussel shell, near the oyster's genitals. From this process, pearls are harvested after three to six years. Long cultivation periods have led to freshwater pearls that are much bigger in size and higher in quality.
