Summary:
Since August of this year I have been retraining in Web development through a series of short courses run by Dynamic Web Training in North Sydney. The courses covered web design and development using HTML, Dreamweaver, CSS, Flash, PHP and MySQL. Following the completion of the course I have been working on developing a new footy tipping web site for some friends who wanted more functionality than the web site they currently use. This has been a very useful exercise as I have had to work through many of the issues involved with web development - particularly the interactivity involved with a dynamic site. Although the site is not completed, the essential ingredients of: registration; logging in and out; setting up a new comp; joining a comp; displaying a home page; selecting and displaying a round number; have all been done.
The site has been developed on a xampp platform using a combination of xhtml, javascript, CSS and PHP using both the Dreamweaver and Komodo editors. Some of the development concepts I have used include: using include files; interposing xtml and php; building functions; building and executing SQL queries; linking and embedding files; using iframes; using $_POST and $_GET and other superglobal arrays; designing pages using regular functions of floats, divs, margins and negative margins; forms and form objects. You can view the site here: http://www.ozporthole.id.au/footytipping/index.php .
Otherwise I have had over 10 years experience studying and working in the IT area. I have a Diploma and Advanced Certificate, with primary involvement with Access and Visual Basic. Although the position I have now is an administrative one with the Workers Compensation Commission, I have been able to retain my IT skills through a number of temporary appointments in the IT area of the organisation as a System Administrator and Project Officer.
I have been involved with the development of a new case management system (Comcase) with the Commission and was recently in the position of Project Officer for the development of a new online application system (e-screens) for the Commission. I have also developed a number of enhancements for the Dispute Management area including developing VBA applications in Excel and Access.
My previous programming experience included working at Financial Services Provider - Perpetual Trustees; a small software house Parrimark Technology who supplied an event management system used throughout the hospitality industry; and the Ozemail internet service provider.
