Sydney Philharmonia Choirs will celebrate the 250th anniversary of George Frideric Handel’s death with a rare performance of Jephtha, the final oratorio written before blindness forced the great composer to lay down his pen.
Handel’s parting masterpiece, first performed at Covert Garden in 1751, will be brought to life again at City Recital Hall Angel Place on Friday 24 July and Sunday 26 July.
While thousands of choral organisations return to performing Handel’s Messiah each year, Artistic & Musical Director, Brett Weymark said the 250th anniversary presented an opportunity to revisit one of the German-born composer’s less-heard works.
