The GEM 550 Trailable Yacht was designed to meet the need for a reasonably priced racing-oriented family weekender, and to provide race performance at a level that falls midway between the popular dinghy classes and the smallest offshore racing yachts.  
The GEM 550 is a successful Rob Humphreys One-Design Micro Tonner yacht, and a popular Trailer Sailer.  Its hull lines are similar to the latest go-fast ocean racers; with a plumb bow, extreme beam at 2.41m (almost 8 feet) for its overall 5.5m (18 feet) length, a wide, dished like belly and flat after section, with unobtrusive sleek upper cabin lines.  
The drop dagger steel keel gives it keelboat performance.  A True Trailer Sailer, the GEM can be launched with little more effort than a large dinghy, and can be trailed by a 4 cylinder 1600cc car. 
We have taken this GEM for overnight stays on an anchor, and will double as a caravan on the road. 
This GEM has spent its whole life (when not sailing) out of the water and under a full tarpaulin.  However, if it were ever to be on a mooring; the boat is designed to sit upright even with its keel retracted.
